Children have various needs that support healthy physical and emotional health that fosters ongoing psychological well being. Diverse nutritional and physical fitness co-variables serve to point up physical health, while adequate vitamins and minerals in the diet continue formation of healthy bones and teeth. Fresh food, produce, and a diet rich in diverse protein assists healthy growth. Adequate sleep, exercise, rest, and play are essential elements in the needs of children. Children need social time with both authority figures and other children, and respond well to animals, nature and wildlife. Change of scenery as well as normal routine blend for highs and lows in sociological and psychological development throughout young childhood to prepubescent years. Children have needs for nonthreatening environments and outdoor play, as well as journeys of discovery and scientific exploration. Sibling relationships and marital health inside the family unit will affect the child's mental picture of "normality" forever. Intellectual development via education, reading, observation, and empirical learning serve to broaden the mind and expand the mental skills. Adventure, learning, and emotional stability are important factors in healthy growth and normal satisfactory development. Emotional relationships with paternal and maternal figures assist in setting up a modeling architecture for later family life. Peer groups against which a child can measure their own individuality must be present for normal development. Autonomy to some degree is desired by children with creative or independent natures. Child development follows some clearly defined pathways. But without security, material resources, food and basic shelter, as well as clothing are obvious needs for a child, other needs less tangible to provide are required. "Love" is a hard item to provide for children, as it cannot be bought in any store and some children may have a difficulty receiving it or showing it. But growing up in an environment of love, trust, emotional stability and reasonable psychological highs and lows is something every child needs. Children need the company of other young children, and the trust and communication of authority figures conducting close relationship without threat, Children stores these gender specific models of behavior inside their psyches for later life reference. When home rhythms of stability are upended, dissociation and depression results. Childhood depression results in overeating, mood swings, experimentation with drugs and alcohol, cutting, and malnutrition. Interruptions in learning and mood swings can occur. Diabetes and obesity has grown to epidemic proportions in children. Children today need healthy behavior modeling such as exercise, dietary observances or calorie limits, and nutritional guidelines for healthy eating pattern development. It is currently a critical national health problem that children consume enough bad food, and lack such exercise knowledge and practice they fall victim to childhood obesity. Complications of obesity can lead to asthma, organ system shutdown, and heart failure. Children in later life will mature into young adults who will unconsciously refer back to the leading personalities in their lives when young. Temperamental differences in childhood and the reaction of the family unit to these crises will set the stage for later development of anger responses and stimulus triggers. Overly controlling parents or those with deficiency allowing children to form their own personalities will reap a dark harvest of dystrophic development later on in life.
